Although the newsletter is always available online, it is not always mailed home each month so e-mail and text updates are very important to keeping up with St. Dominic CYO. Confirmation Reminders

Peer Ministry Team Members of the Peer Ministry Team will facilitate a Day of Reflection for the St. Dominic chool 7th graders on March 5th. Please pray for the success of this gathering.
Spring Retreat –Mark Your Calendar! Our next retreat is THIS MONTH on Saturday, March 20-Sunday, March 21 at the Magnificat Center of the Holy Spirit. The theme is “ONE FISH, TWO FISH, FIVE LOAVES, FAITH ENRICHED” which will take a few of your favorite Dr. Seuss stories and examine a faith message through each. Some 62 teens attended the winter retreat, and we want YOU to be part of that number for the Spring Retreat. Details are in this newsletter! Mark your calendar now!
2010 Summer Trip Preview The CYO 2010 Summer Trip will be July 14-19, 2010, to Atlanta and Tennessee with attractions including Six Flags Over Georgia, Georgia Aquarium, CNN Studios, Stone Mountain, Rock City, Ruby Falls, and white water rafting. If you intend to go on summer trip, you are encouraged to participate in CYO activities during the spring, especially the monthly meetings and the Spring Retreat. The one requirement for summer trip eligibility is participation in one CYO service project. Summer Trip is always a great CYO community experience, so don’t be left out!
Adoration “Teen Hour” Reminder The Eucharistic Adoration Chapel in Aquinas Hall is open on a limited schedule that’s always being expanded. The CYO is committed to the 7- 8 PM hour on Wednesdays. While there are members of the Youth Board and Peer Ministry Team there each week, we strongly encourage others to stop in for any amount of time.
Abbey Youth FestDate: Saturday, March 13, 2010 Time: Meet at Aquinas Hall at 8:00 AM Return to Aquinas Hall at 10:00 PM Place: St. Joseph Abbey and Seminary College near Covington Bring: $35 (registration fee), $ for lunch and dinner, permission form, sunscreen
This annual, regional gathering of 3000 teens features Catholic speakers; Christian bands; exhibitors on vocations, retreats, Catholic T-shirts; Mass with Abbot Justin Brown, OSB; opportunity for confessions and a candlelit Eucharistic Adoration service to close the day. The event takes place in an outdoor, festival-like setting. You can see more about AYF at www.abbeyyouthfest.org

Mass and Mandatory Monthly MeetingDate: Sunday, March 14, 2010Time: 5:30 PM Mass with meeting from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM Place: St. Dominic Gym Bring: $3 for pizza (optional)
We will need ushers for the Mass so please see Alex Gasser in the back of church to help. Please remember to avoid the balcony loft and to not stand in the back of church. It is our responsibility to participate in the Mass.
Seniors will meet with Jason Joubert for updates regarding their senior grad trip. All other members will have a presentation about the 2010 Summer Trip to Atlanta & Tennessee . There also be a guest speaker.
8th Grade C.O.R.E. –second meeting All 8th graders are invited to join the 8th grade leadership team, C.O.R.E., and attend the second meeting this month on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM in the Rectory. CORE is “Catholics Organizing and Representing Eighth-graders.” The group meets during the spring, learns leadership and planning skills, and then plans a special event for the entire group of 8th graders in the CYO. If you did not sign up at the February monthly meeting or attend the first meeting, you can still join. If you have questions, please call Johnny at 504-813-3003.
Spring Retreat: ONE FISH, TWO FISH, FIVE LOAVES, FAITH ENRICHED

Transportation by school bus; if you live on the northshore, you may also meet us directly at Magnificat; call Johnny for directions and times.
Place: Magnificat Center of the Holy Spirit near Pontchatoula Bring: permission form (enclosed), $60 (cash or check; Confirmation candidates have already paid), and the following personal supplies: clothing, sleeping bag or sheets/blanket, pillow, towels, soap/shampoo/etc, snacks
The Winter Retreat was a huge success with 62 members from all grades attending. The Peer Ministry Team is busy planning another great weekend with the theme: ONE FISH, TWO FISH, FIVE LOAVES, FAITH ENRICHED, taking a look at hearing God’s call in our lives, overcoming moral challenges and temptation, and journeying with Christ – all through the lens of a few Dr. Seuss stories. There will be small group time, recreation and games, free time, opportunity for confession, celebration of the Eucharist, and of course, the bonfire.
Because I have to arrange enough transportation AND guarantee attendance to Magnficat AND have enough food, you MUST contact Johnny at 504-813-3003 or info@stdominiccyo.org AND submit payment and registration form tothe St. Dominic Rectory by March 16th.
Archdiocesan CYO Bowling Tournament Date: Sunday, March 28, 2010 Time: Meet at Aquinas Hall at 11:30 AM Return to Aquinas Hall at 5:30 PM Place: Colonial Lanes in Harahan Bring: $15 and permission form
Get your friends together and come join us for some friendly competition and fun with other youth groups from the area. We will leave immediately after 10:30 AM Mass and be back in time for 5:30 PM Mass, as well as the 6:30 PM Confirmation class.

Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) Besides the 2010 Summer Trip to San Antonio on July 15-20, 2009, there will be two other special opportunities this summer. On June 14-18, 2010, the Archdiocesan CYO Office will hold its Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) at the Bishop Tracy Conference Center in Baton Rouge. This is an outstanding opportunity for current or future teen leaders to learn valuable leadership skills including group dynamics, event planning, moral decision-making, prayer for leaders, and more. This is open to any teen; you do not have to be in a current leadership position. CLI cost will be $275 for registration, lodging, and all meals.
Catholic Youth Night #2 at Hornets’ Game
Date: Wednesday, March 31, 2010 (night before Holy Thursday & holidays) Time: Meet at St. Dominic at 5:30 PM Return to St. Dominic at 10:30 PM Place: New Orleans Arena Bring: $15for game ticket, permission form, and $ for concessions/snacks
The Archdiocese and the New Orleans Hornets are sponsoring Catholic Youth Night at this game versus the Washington Wizards . This is a great opportunity to get your friends together from St. Dominic, see friends from other parishes, and have a great time and benefit Archdiocesan youth ministry programs as well.

CYO SPORTS2010 Co-ed Volleyball Two teams have been registered for the Archdiocesan league. Team rosters have been posted at www.stdominiccyo.org on the athletic page. Three practices will be held between March 1 and 20. Games begin the week of March 22. Team members should check their e-mail and the website regularly for updates.
